the hug project

What's in a hug?

A hug can say I missed you, I love you, give support, dry up tears, bring a smile, make you feel safe, keep your warm, end feuds, connect strangers and loved ones, bring comfort, peace, hope and joy.

Such a small gesture but when you stop and consider the possible impact a simple hug can have this seemingly small gesture becomes a very, very powerful one don't you think?

So what is The Hug Project all about?

Potentially The Hug Project or Hug the Nation, Hug the World as it was once called is really all about just that - hugging the world...so to speak because OUR hug could positively impact the lives of everyone involved as well as many disadvantaged and vulnerable kids around the world.

The Hug Project is about bringing people together, creating community, harmony & peace.

In short it's about love!

It is our favorite project & the event that launched TSCF back in 2009. It's our way of bringing school kids & young people from different communities together in an effort to break the Guinness World Record for the worlds biggest hug!

We didn't do so great in our first attempt but this time we're determined to make it the BIGGEST HUG EVER so we need everyone's support. And when we say everyone we really mean EVERYONE because for those of you who don't know the Guinness World Record is over 10,000 huggers!

When is it?

We are pleased to announce that this time we are proudly sponsored by The Templestowe Festival and the hug will be a big part of festival celebrations at 1pm on Sunday April 22nd, 2012.

It's really not that far away is it? So if we are going to smash the world record we need time to get organised!

What better way to raise money for those kids and young people around the world less fortunate than ourselves?

Imagine not knowing if there's going to be any dinner on the table when you get home from school or any food in your lunch box at lunchtime. Imagine not even being able to go to school or ever having family holidays...no iPod, no Play Station, no bikes and no books to read. Imagine having to work before your 8th birthday so your family can afford to buy rice.

Pretty hard to imagine a life like that isn't it?

Sadly for thousands of kids everywhere that is their reality simply because of where they were born.

We are luckier than we know here in Australia so whether for you and your school it's about peace, love, prosperity, community, connection, making a difference to those less fortunate or just having FUN - get involved in our bid to SMASH the Guinness World Record for the WORLD'S BIGGEST HUG!

We need everybody's support - either in a really big way by:

  • Be on a Hug Committee - apply to be a pivotal part of planning, organising & promoting Hug the Nation, Hug the World
  • Be a Hug Music Video Producer - create a music video to promote Hug the Nation, Hug the World

  • championing your school
  • or just as importantly turning up on Sunday April 22nd 2012, to be hug and be hugged!

what does a hug mean to you?
